It is as if I can see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recounting the story of one of the prophets whose people struck him until he bled. He was wiping the blood from his face and saying, "O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know."
كأني أنظر إلى رسول الله ﷺ يحكي نبيا من الأنبياء ضربه قومه فأدموه، وهو يمسح الدم عن وجهه ويقول: اللهم اغفر لقومي فإنهم لا يعلمون.
Bukhari related it in the chapters on the Prophets (3477) and Muslim in the Book of Jihad (1792), both from the hadith of Amash, who said, Shaqiq narrated to me from Abdullah, and he mentioned it. In Muslim's version, "while he was wiping the blood from his forehead."
