One day, meat was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the foreleg was offered to him, which he particularly enjoyed. He took a bite from it and said, "I will be the master of mankind on the Day of Resurrection. Do you know why that is?Allah will gather the first and the last of mankind on one plain on the Day of Resurrection, where a caller's voice will reach them all and a single glance will take them all in. The sun will draw near, and people will be overwhelmed by such grief and distress that they cannot bear or endure it.Some will say to others, 'Do you not see the state you are in? Do you not see what has befallen you? Will you not seek someone to intercede for you with your Lord?'Some will say to others, 'Go to Adam.'So they will come to Adam and say, 'Adam, you are the father of humanity. Allah created you with His own hand, breathed into you of His spirit, and commanded the angels to prostrate to you. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'Adam will reply, 'My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry the like of it again. He forbade me from the tree, and I disobeyed Him. Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else. Go to Nuh.'So they will come to Nuh and say, 'Nuh, you are the first messenger sent to the people of the earth, and Allah named you a grateful servant. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'He will say to them, 'My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry the like of it again. I once made a supplication against my people. Myself, myself, myself. Go to Ibrahim ﷺ.'So they will come to Ibrahim and say, 'You are the Prophet of Allah and His intimate friend from among the people of the earth. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'Ibrahim will say to them, 'My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry the like of it again,' and he will mention his statements that were not strictly true. 'Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else. Go to Musa.'So they will come to Musa ﷺ and say, 'Musa, you are the Messenger of Allah. Allah favored you above the people with His messages and by speaking to you directly. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'Musa ﷺ will say to them, 'My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry the like of it again. I killed a soul I had not been commanded to kill. Myself, myself, myself. Go to Isa ﷺ.'So they will come to Isa and say, 'Isa, you are the Messenger of Allah. You spoke to people in the cradle, and you are a word from Him which He cast unto Maryam, and a spirit from Him. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'Isa ﷺ will say to them, 'My Lord is angry today with an anger such as He has never been angry before, nor will He ever be angry the like of it again,' and he will not mention any sin of his own. 'Myself, myself, myself. Go to someone else. Go to Muhammad ﷺ.'So they will come to me and say, 'Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah and the seal of the prophets. Allah has forgiven you your past and future sins. Intercede for us with your Lord. Do you not see the state we are in? Do you not see what has befallen us?'So I will set off and come beneath the Throne, and I will fall in prostration before my Lord. Then Allah will open for me, and inspire me with such praises and beautiful glorifications of Him as He has not opened to anyone before me.Then it will be said, 'Muhammad, raise your head. Ask, and you shall be given. Intercede, and your intercession will be accepted.'So I will raise my head and say, 'My Lord, my nation, my nation.'It will be said, 'Muhammad, admit into Paradise those of your nation who have no reckoning against them through the right gate of the gates of Paradise. They will also share with the rest of the people in the other gates.'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the distance between the two side-posts of one of those gates of Paradise is like the distance between Mecca and Hajar, or like the distance between Mecca and Busra."
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4712), and Muslim in the faith (194), both from the hadith of Abu Hayan Taymi, from Abu Zura bin Amr bin Jareer, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. The wording given here is Muslim's, and Bukhari's wording is close to it, except that he mentioned, "Myself, myself, myself," three times.
