The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Who will go and see what Abu Jahl has done?"Ibn Masud set out and found that the two sons of Afra had struck him down until he was lifeless. He grabbed him by his beard and asked, "Are you Abu Jahl?"He replied, "Is there anything greater than a man you have killed?" Or he said, "Whom his own people have killed?"Abu Majliz said that Abu Jahl said, "If only someone other than a farmer had killed me."
Bukhari related it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4020), and Muslim in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (118:1800), both through the route of Ismail bin Ulaya, who said, Sulayman Taymi narrated to us, who said, Anas bin Malik narrated to us, who said (then he mentioned it), and the wording is Muslim's.
