Abdul-Rahman bin Awf arrived in Madinah, and the Prophet ﷺ established a bond of brotherhood between him and Saad bin Rabi al-Ansari. Saad offered to share half of his family and wealth with him, but Abdul-Rahman replied, "May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Just show me the way to the market."He went and made some profit dealing in dried curd and clarified butter. The Prophet ﷺ later saw him with traces of yellow perfume on him and asked, "What is this, Abdul-Rahman?"He answered, "Messenger of Allah, I have married a woman from the Ansar."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "How much did you give her as dowry?"He replied, "The weight of a date-stone in gold."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Hold a wedding feast, even with a single sheep."
قدم عبد الرحمن بن عوف، فآخى النبي ﷺ بينه وبين سعد بن الربيع الأنصاري، فعرض عليه أن يناصفه أهله وماله، فقال عبد الرحمن: بارك الله لك في أهلك ومالك، دلني على السوق، فربح شيئا من أقط وسمن، فرآه النبي ﷺ وعليه وضر من صفرة فقال النبي ﷺ: مهيم يا عبد الرحمن قال يا رسول الله! تزوجت امرأة من الأنصار قال: فما سقت فيها فقال: وزن نواة من ذهب، فقال النبي ﷺ: أولم ولو بشاة
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Virtues (3937) from Muhammad bin Yusuf, who said, "Sufyan narrated to us, from Humayd, from Anas," and mentioned it. In another version he transmits (2048), Saad bin Rabee said, "I am the wealthiest of the Ansar in property, so I will divide my wealth with you in half, and look at whichever of my wives you find appealing, and I will step aside from her for you, and when she becomes lawful you may marry her." As for the story of the wedding feast, it is found in the Sahihayn as mentioned earlier in the Book of Marriage.
