Bara bin Azib reported,

Abu Bakr bought a saddle from Azib for thirteen dirhams. Abu Bakr said to Azib, "Tell Bara to carry it to my house."Azib replied, "No, not until you tell us how you handled things when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out and you were with him."Abu Bakr said, "We set out and traveled through the night, pressing on through that day and night until midday came and the sun stood directly overhead. I cast my eyes about looking for any shade where we could take shelter, and I came upon a rock. I went toward it, and there was a small patch of shade beside it. I leveled the ground for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, spread out a fur for him, and said, 'Lie down, Messenger of Allah.' So he lay down.Then I went out to see if I could spot any pursuers, and I came across a shepherd with his flock. I asked, 'Whose servant are you, young man?' He named a man from Quraysh, and I recognized the name.I asked, 'Is there any milk in your flock?'He said, 'Yes.'I said, 'Will you milk some for me?'He said, 'Yes.' So I instructed him, and he secured one of the sheep. Then I told him to wipe the dust off her udder, and to wipe the dust off his hands. I had a waterskin with me with a cloth tied over its mouth, and he milked a small amount of milk for me. I poured water onto the cup until its bottom was cool, then I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found that he had woken up.I said, 'Drink, Messenger of Allah.' He drank until I was content. Then I said, 'Is it time to move on?' So we set out, with the people pursuing us. None of them caught up with us except Suraqa bin Malik bin Jushum on a horse of his.I said, 'Messenger of Allah, this pursuer has caught up with us.'He said, 'Do not grieve, Allah is with us.' When he drew close to us, with only the distance of a spear or two between us, or perhaps two or three spears, I said, 'Messenger of Allah, this pursuer has caught up with us,' and I wept.He asked, 'Why are you crying?'I said, 'By Allah, I am not crying for myself, but for you.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated against him, saying, 'O Allah, deal with him for us as You will.' The legs of his horse sank into solid ground up to its belly. He leapt off and said, 'Muhammad, I know this is your doing. Pray to Allah to deliver me from what I am in, and by Allah, I will lead astray those pursuers who come after me. Here is my quiver, take an arrow from it. You will pass by my camels and sheep at such-and-such a place, so take from them whatever you need.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I have no need for that.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ supplicated for him, and he was released and returned to his companions.The Messenger of Allah continued on, with me alongside him, until we reached Medina. The people came out to meet him, going out into the streets and onto the rooftops. Servants and children rushed through the streets calling out, 'Allah is the greatest, the Messenger of Allah has come, Muhammad has come!' The people argued about who would host him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Tonight I will stay with Banu Najjar, the maternal uncles of Abdul-Muttalib, to honor them by doing so.' When morning came, he went where he had been instructed."Bara said, "The first of the Muhajirun to arrive among us was Musab bin Umayr, of Banu Abd al-Dar. Then Ibn Umm Maktum the blind man came to us, one of Banu Fihr. Then Umar bin Khattab arrived with twenty riders. We asked, 'What has the Messenger of Allah done?' He said, 'He is right behind me.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ arrived, with Abu Bakr accompanying him."Bara added, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not arrive until I had already learned several surahs from the Mufassal section of the Quran."

بن عازب قال

اشترى أبو بكر من عازب سرجا بثلاثة عشر در هما، فقال أبو بكر لعازب: مر البراء فليحمله إلى منزلي، فقال: لا، حتى تحدثنا كيف صنعت حين خرج رسول الله ﷺ وأنت معه، فقال أبو بكر: خرجنا فأدلجنا فأحثثنا يومنا وليلتنا، حتى أظهرنا وقام قائم الظهيرة، فضربت بصري هل أرى ظلا نأوي إليه، فإذا أنا بصخرة، فأهويت إليها، فإذا بقية ظلها، فسويته لرسول الله ﷺ وفرشت له فروة وقلت: اضطجع يا رسول الله، فاضطجع، ثم خرجت أنظر هل أرى أحدا من الطلب، فإذا أنا براعي غنم، فقلت: لمن أنت يا غلام؟ فقال: الرجل من قريش، فسماه فعرفته، فقلت: هل في غنمك من لبن؟ قال: نعم، قال: هل أنت حالب لي؟ قال: نعم، فأمرته فاعتقل شاة منها، ثم أمرته فنفض ضرعها من الغبار، ثم أمرته فنفض كفيه من الغبار، ومعي إداوة على فمها خرقة، فحلب لي كتبة من اللبن فصيبت- يعني الماء- على القدح حتى برد أسفله، ثم أتيت رسول الله ﷺ فوافيته وقد استيقظ، فقلت: اشرب يا رسول الله، فشرب حتى رضيت، ثم قلت: هل أن الرحيل؟ فارتحلنا والقوم يطلبوننا، فلم يدركنا أحد منهم إلا سراقة بن مالك بن جعشم على فرس له، فقلت: يا رسول الله، هذا الطلب قد لحقنا، قال: لا تحزن إن الله معنا. حتى إذا دنا منا فكان بيننا وبينه قدر رمح أو رمحين،- أو قال: رمحين أو ثلاثة-قلت: يا رسول الله، هذا الطلب قد لحقنا، وبكيت، قال: لم تبكي؟ قال: قلت: أما والله ما على نفسي أبكي، ولكن أبكي عليك، فدعا عليه رسول الله ﷺ فقال: اللهم اكفناه بما شئت. فساخت قوائم فرسه إلى بطنها في أرض صلد، وثب عنها، وقال: يا محمد، قد علمت أن هذا عملك، فادع الله أن ينجيني مما أنا فيه، فوالله لأعمين على من ورائي من الطلب، وهذه كنانتي فخذ منها سهما، فإنك ستمر بإبلي وغنمي بموضع كذا وكذا، فخذ منها حاجتك، قال: فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لا حاجة لي فيها قال: ودعا له رسول الله ﷺ فأطلق ورجع إلى أصحابه، ومضى رسول الله: وأنا معه، حتى قدمنا المدينة وتلقاه الناس فخرجوا في الطرق وعلى الأجاجير، واشتد الخدم والصبيان في الطريق يقولون: الله أكبر، جاء رسول الله، جاء محمد، قال: وتنازع القوم أيهم ينزل عليه، قال: فقال رسول الله ﷺ: أنزل الليلة على بني النجار أخوال عبد المطلب، لأكرمهم بذلك. فلما أصبح غدا حيث أمر. قال البراء: أول من قدم علينا من المهاجرين مصعب بن عمير، أخو بني عبد الدار، ثم قدم علينا ابن أم مكتوم الأعمى، أحد بني فهر، ثم قدم علينا عمر بن الخطاب في عشرين راكبا، فقلنا: ما فعل رسول الله؟ قال: هو على أثري، ثم قدم رسول الله ﷺ وأبو بكر معه، قال البراء: ولم يقدم رسول الله ﷺ حتى قرأت سورا من المفصل.
