Abu Bakr said, I said to the Prophet ﷺ while we were in the cave, "If any of them were to look beneath his feet, he would see us."He replied, "What do you think, Abu Bakr, of two whose third is Allah?"
قلت للنبي ﷺ وأنا في الغار: لو أن أحدهم نظر تحت قدميه لأبصرنا فقال: ما ظنك يا أبا بكر باثنين الله ثالثهما.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Virtues (3653) and Muslim in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions (2381), both from the hadith of Hammam, from Thabit, from Anas, from Abu Bakr, who related it.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr stayed in the cave for three nights so that the search for them would settle down. This was because when the polytheists lost track of them, they went out searching for them in every direction. They offered a hundred camels to whoever brought back either of them, and they followed their tracks. The one who tracked for Quraysh was Suraqa bin Malik bin Jushum, and they reached all the way to the mountain where the two of them were.
