The first to come to us were Musab bin Umayr and Ibn Umm Maktum, and they used to teach the people to recite. Then came Bilal, Saad, and Ammar bin Yasir, and after them Umar bin Khattab arrived with twenty of the Prophet's ﷺ companions. Then the Prophet ﷺ himself arrived.I never saw the people of Madinah rejoice over anything as they rejoiced over the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so much so that even the servant girls were saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has come!" He did not arrive until I had already learned "Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High" [Ala 87:1] along with other short surahs from the closing section of the Quran.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Virtues (3925) from Muhammad bin Bashshar, who said, Ghundar narrated to us, Shubah narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq, who said, I heard Bara bin Azib narrate it, and he mentioned it.
