Quraysh came to Abu Talib and said, "Your nephew is causing us harm in our gathering place and in our mosque, so restrain him from harming us."He said, "Aqeel, bring Muhammad to me."So I went and brought him.Abu Talib said, "Nephew, your cousins claim that you are harming them in their gathering place and in their mosque, so stop doing that."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ lifted his gaze to the sky and said, "Do you see this sun?"They said, "Yes."He said, "I am no more able to abandon that for you than you are able to kindle for me a flame from it."Abu Talib said, "My nephew has not lied to us, so go back."
جاءت قريش إلى أبي طالب فقالوا: إن ابن أخيك يؤذينا في نادينا، وفي مسجدنا، فانهه عنه أذانا. فقال: يا عقيل، ائتني بمحمد، فذهبت فأتيته به، فقال: يا ابن أخي، إن بني عمك يزعمون أنك تؤذيهم في ناديهم، وفي مسجدهم، فانته عن ذلك. قال: فحلق رسول الله ﷺ بصره إلى السماء فقال: أترون هذه الشمس؟ قالوا: نعم، قال: ما أنا بأقدر على أن أدع لكم ذلك على أن تستشعلوا لي منها شعلة قال: فقال أبو طالب: ما كذبنا ابن أخي، فارجعوا.

Abu Yaala (6804) and Bayhaqi in Dalail (2/186–187) both narrated it through the hadith of Yunus bin Bukayr, who said, Talha bin Yahya narrated to us, from Musa bin Talha, who said, Aqeel bin Abu Talib narrated to us, and he mentioned it.Its chain is hasan because of Talha bin Yahya, who is Tamimi Madani, a narrator about whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan.It was also narrated with a similar meaning, using the wording of ﷺ, "Uncle, by Allah, if they placed the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left, on condition that I abandon this cause until Allah makes it prevail, or I perish in the attempt, I would not abandon it."Ibn Ishaq narrated it, saying, Yaqub bin Utba bin Mughira bin Akhnas narrated to me that he related, When Quraysh said this statement to Abu Talib, he sent for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and said to him, "Nephew, your people have come to me and said such and such to me," referring to what they had said to him, "so spare me and spare yourself, and do not burden me with more of this matter than I can bear."He said, The Messenger of Allah ﷺ thought that his uncle had had a change of heart concerning him, that he was forsaking and abandoning him, and that he had grown too weak to support him and stand with him.He said, So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Uncle, by Allah, if they placed the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left, on condition that I abandon this cause until Allah makes it prevail, or I perish in the attempt, I would not abandon it."He said, Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was overcome with emotion and wept, then he rose to leave. As he turned away, Abu Talib called out to him, saying, "Come back, nephew." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned back to him, and Abu Talib said, "Go, nephew, and say whatever you wish, for by Allah, I will never hand you over for anything."See Sirat bin Hisham (1/266). Yaqub bin Utba bin Mughira died in the year one hundred and twenty-eight, and he was among the followers of the Tabiin, so its chain has a break of two or more consecutive narrators.
