The Prophet ﷺ used to endure great strain when revelation came down, and he would move his lips.Saeed bin Jubayr said that Ibn Abbas told him, "I will move my lips as the Prophet ﷺ used to move his."Then Saeed said, "And I will move mine as Ibn Abbas used to move his."And he moved his lips.So Allah the Exalted revealed, "Do not move your tongue with it to hasten it. It is for Us to gather it and to recite it" [Qiyamah 75:16–17]. Ibn Abbas explained that this means to gather it in your heart, and then you will recite it. "So when We have recited it, follow its recitation" [Qiyamah 75:18]. He said this means listen and be silent, and then it is for Us to see that you recite it.So whenever Jibreel came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he would listen, and once Jibreel departed, the Prophet ﷺ would recite it just as Jibreel had recited it to him.
It was narrated by Muslim in the Book of Prayer (448:148) from Qutayba bin Saeed, who said, Abu Awana narrated to us, from Musa bin Abu Ayesha, from Saeed bin Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.And regarding Surah Taha [114], "And do not hasten with the Quran before its revelation is completed to you" [Taha 20:114], meaning rather, listen attentively. Then when the angel finishes his recitation, recite it after him."And say, My Lord, increase me in knowledge" [Taha 20:114]. Ibn Uyayna said, He continued to increase in knowledge until Allah took him.
