Bazzar narrated it (Kashf Astar 2360) from Muhammad bin Walid, who said, Muhammad bin Jahdam narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Abdullah bin Amr bin As, and he related it. Its chain is hasan because of Muhammad bin Walid, who is Fahham Baghdadi. Nasai said, "There is no harm in him," and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators.Something of similar meaning has been reported from Ibn Abbas, who said, I was in a circle in the masjid discussing the merits of the prophets, which of them was the most excellent. We mentioned Nuh and the length of his worship of his Lord, we mentioned Ibrahim, the close friend of the Merciful, we mentioned Musa, the one to whom Allah spoke directly, we mentioned Isa bin Maryam, and we mentioned the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. While we were engaged in that, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us and said, "What are you discussing among yourselves?" We said, "O Messenger of Allah, we mentioned the merits of the prophets, which of them is the most excellent. We mentioned Nuh and the length of his worship of his Lord, we mentioned Ibrahim, the close friend of the Merciful, we mentioned Musa, the one to whom Allah spoke directly, we mentioned Isa bin Maryam, and we mentioned you, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "So whom did you consider most excellent?" We said, "We considered you most excellent, O Messenger of Allah. Allah sent you to all of mankind, forgave you your past and future sins, and you are the seal of the prophets." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No one should be considered better than Yahya bin Zakariya." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, how is that?" He said, "Have you not heard how Allah described him in the Quran, "O Yahya, take the Scripture with determination. And We gave him wisdom while yet a boy" up to His saying "and alive" [Maryam 19:12–15], "confirming a word from Allah, and honorable, and abstinent, and a prophet from among the righteous" [Al Imran 3:39]. He never did an evil deed nor even intended one."Bazzar narrated it (Kashf Astar 2358), and this is his wording, as did Ahmad (2294), Abu Yaala (2544), and Hakim (2591), all of them through the hadith of Hammad bin Salama, who said, Ali bin Zayd informed us, from Yusuf bin Mihran, from Ibn Abbas, who said, and he related it.Its chain is daif because of Ali bin Zayd, who is Ibn Jadan, whom most scholars have judged daif. His teacher Yusuf bin Mihran is truthful, and Abu Zura and Ibn Saad both considered him trustworthy, even though no one narrated from him except Ali bin Zayd. There is another flaw in it as well, namely that Hammad bin Salama made a mistake regarding it. At one time he narrated it from Ali bin Zayd with a connected chain, and at another time from Habib bin Shaheed and Yunus bin Ubayd and Humayd, from Hasan, with a disconnected chain.Hakim narrated it from Abu Bakr bin Ishaq, who said, Muhammad bin Ghalib narrated to us, who said, Affan and Abu Salama narrated to us, saying, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, and he related it. But Dhahabi said in his abridgment of Hakim's work, "Its chain is good, and there is an indication that the chain is strengthened by combining its parts."
