The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is not fitting for any servant to say, 'I am better than Yunus bin Matta.'"
عن النبي ﷺ قال: لا ينبغي لعبد أن يقول: أنا خير من يونس بن متى.
Bukhari narrated it in the book of the prophets (3416) and in tafsir (4631) through multiple routes from Shuba, from Saad bin Ibrahim, who said, I heard Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman narrating from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it. This is the wording of Bukhari.Muslim narrated it in the book of virtues (2376) through multiple routes from Muhammad bin Jafar, who said, Shuba narrated to us from Saad bin Ibrahim, who said, I heard Humayd bin Abdul-Rahman narrating from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said, meaning Allah , "It is not fitting for a servant of Mine" and in another version, "for My servant", "to say, I am better than Yunus bin Matta
."So Ghundar Muhammad bin Jafar differed from Abu Walid and Adam bin Abu Iyas by rendering it as a hadith qudsi. His statement, "that he said, meaning Allah
...", appears this way in all the copies of Sahih Muslim available to us, and likewise in Jam Bayna Sahihayn by Ishbili (3/540).
