Abu Dharr narrated to us, by Allah, at al-Rabadhah. He said, I was walking with the Prophet ﷺ in the lava plain of Medina one evening, when Mount Uhud came into view. He said, "Abu Dharr, I would not wish to have gold equal to Uhud and let a night or three pass with a single dinar of it remaining with me, except what I set aside for a debt. Rather, I would say with it among the servants of Allah like this, and like this, and like this," gesturing with his hand.Then he said, "Abu Dharr."I replied, "At your service, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Those with the most wealth will be those with the least on the Day of Resurrection, except for one who says with it like this, and like this, and like this."Then he said to me, "Stay where you are, Abu Dharr. Do not move until I return."He set off until he disappeared from my sight. Then I heard a sound and feared that something might have happened to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I wanted to go after him. But then I remembered the words of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, "Do not move," so I stayed put.When he returned, I said, "Messenger of Allah, I heard a sound and feared that something had happened to you. Then I remembered what you had told me, so I stayed."The Prophet ﷺ said, "That was Jibreel. He came to me and informed me that whoever from my nation dies without associating anything with Allah will enter Paradise."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, even if he commits adultery and even if he steals?"He answered, "Even if he commits adultery and even if he steals."
حدثنا- والله- أبو ذر بالربذة قال: كنت أمشي مع النبي ﷺ في حرة المدينة عشاء، استقبلنا أحد فقال: يا أبا ذر ما أحب أن أحدا لي ذهبا يأتي عليه ليلة أو ثلاث عندي منه دينار إلا الأرصده لدين، الآن أقول به في عباد الله هكذا وهكذا وهكذا، وأرانا بيده ثم قال: يا أبا ذر. قلت: لبيك وسعديك يا رسول الله، قال: الأكثرون هم الأقلون إلا من قال هكذا وهكذا وهكذا، ثم قال لي: مكانك لا تبرح يا أبا ذر حتى أرجع، فانطلق حتى غاب عني فسمعت صوتا فخشيت أن يكون عرض لرسول الله ﷺ، فأردت أن أذهب ثم ذكرت قول رسول الله ﷺ: لا تبرح، فتمكثت. قلت: يا رسول الله سمعت صوتا خشيت أن يكون عرض لك، ثم ذكرت قولك، فتمكثت فقال النبي ﷺ: ذاك جبريل أتاني فأخبرني أنه من مات من أمتي لا يشرك بالله شيئا دخل الجنة. قلت: يا رسول الله وإن زنى وإن سرق؟ قال: وإن زنى وإن سرق.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Asking Permission (6268), and Muslim in the Book of Zakat (94), both from the hadith of Amash, from Zayd bin Wahb, from Abu Dharr, and he related it. The wording given is Bukhari's, and Muslim's wording is similar. In Bukhari it says, "I said to Zayd, 'It has reached me that it was Abu Darda?' He said, 'I bear witness that Abu Dharr narrated it to me at Rabaza.' Amash said, 'Abu Salih also narrated to me, from Abu Darda, something similar.'" This is the end of it, except that Bukhari holds that the hadith of Abu Darda is mursal, as mentioned previously.
