The Prophet ﷺ entered the House and found inside it an image of Ibrahim and an image of Maryam. He said, "As for them, they have heard that the angels do not enter a house in which there is an image. This is Ibrahim depicted in an image, so why is he shown drawing lots with arrows?"
دخل النبي ﷺ البيت فوجد فيه صورة إبراهيم وصورة مريم فقال: أما لهم فقد سمعوا أن الملائكة لا تدخل بيتا فيه صورة هذا إبراهيم مصور فما له يستقسم؟
Bukhari related it in the chapters on the prophets (3351) from Yahya bin Sulayman, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to me, saying, Amr informed me that Bukair told him, from Kurayb, the freedman of Ibn Abbas, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.In another wording of his, when the Prophet ﷺ saw the images in the House, he did not enter until he ordered them to be erased. He saw an image of Ibrahim and Ismail, peace be upon them both, holding divination arrows in their hands, and he said, "May Allah fight them, by Allah, neither of them ever practiced divination with arrows."In another wording of his as well, when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Makkah, he refused to enter the House while the idols were in it. So he ordered them removed, and they were taken out. Among them was an image of Ibrahim and Ismail holding divination arrows in their hands. The Prophet ﷺ said, "May Allah fight them, they surely knew that neither of them ever practiced divination with these." Then he entered the House and proclaimed the greatness of Allah in its corners, and left without praying in it.Bukhari related both wordings, in this order, in the book of the prophets (3352), and in the book of military expeditions (4288), through various chains from Ayub, from Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, and he mentioned it.
