On the night the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was taken on the night journey from the mosque of the Kaabah, three men came to him. Then he was taken up to the lowest heaven, where he knocked on one of its gates. The inhabitants of the heaven called out, "Who is this?"He answered, "Jibreel."They asked, "And who is with you?"He replied, "Muhammad is with me."They asked, "Has he been sent?"He said, "Yes."They said, "Welcome to him, he is most welcome." The inhabitants of the heaven rejoiced at his arrival. The inhabitants of the heaven do not know what Allah intends to do on earth until He informs them.In the lowest heaven, he found Adam. Jibreel said to him, "This is your father Adam, so greet him." He greeted him, and Adam returned the greeting and said, "Welcome, my son, what an excellent son you are."Then he was taken up to the fourth heaven, and they said the like of that to him. He continued until he said that every heaven contained prophets whom he named. Of these I retained that Idrees was in the second heaven.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Tawhid (7517), from Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah, who said, Sulayman told me, from Sharik bin Abdullah, who said, I heard Anas bin Malik say, and he mentioned it. Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Iman (162:262), from Harun bin Saeed Ayli, who said, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, who said, Sulayman, that is Ibn Bilal, informed me, who said, Sharik bin Abdullah bin Abu Nimr told me, who said, I heard Anas bin Malik, and he mentioned part of it, referring the rest to the hadith before it by saying, "Similar to the hadith of Thabit Bunani, though he moved some parts forward and others back, and added and omitted some things."On this subject there is also a narration from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, concerning the words of Allah Most High, "Glory be to the One who took His servant by night" [Isra 17:1]. In it, he said, "Then he ascended with me to the fourth heaven, and he sought permission to enter. It was said, 'Who is this?' He said, 'Jibreel.' They said, 'And who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad.' They said, 'Has he indeed been sent for?' He said, 'Yes.' They said, 'May Allah give him life, what a good brother and what a good successor, and what a good arrival he has made.'" He said, "So he entered, and there was a man. I said, 'Who is this, O Jibreel?' He said, 'This is Idris, whom Allah raised to a high station.'" And he mentioned the hadith at length. This was narrated by Bazzar (Kashf Astar 55), and by Tabari in Tahzib Athar (727, Musnad of Ibn Abbas) and in his Tafsir (14/424, 435), and by Bayhaqi in Dalail (2/397), all of them through various chains, from Abu Jafar Razi, who is Isa bin Mahan, from Rabi bin Anas, from Abu Aliyah, from Abu Hurairah, who said, and he mentioned it. Scholars have criticized Abu Jafar's memory, and his narration from his teacher Rabi bin Anas Bakri contains considerable confusion, as Ibn Hibban stated in Thiqat (4/228).On this subject there is also a narration from Abu Saeed Khudri, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "I was brought Buraq..." and in it, "Then he took us up to the fourth heaven, and Jibreel sought permission to enter. It was said, 'Who are you?' He said, 'Jibreel.' It was said, 'And who is with you?' He said, 'Muhammad.' It was said, 'Has he indeed been sent to him?' He said, 'He has indeed been sent to him.' So it was opened for us, and there I was with Idris. He welcomed me and prayed for good things for me." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited, "and We raised him to a high station" [Maryam 19:57]... and he continued the hadith. This was narrated by Harith bin Abu Usama (Bughyat Bahith 27), and by Tabari in Tahzib Athar (725, 726) and in his Tafsir (14/436), and by Bayhaqi in Dalail (2/390), all of them through various chains from Abu Harun, Umara bin Juwayn Abdi, from Abu Saeed Khudri, and he mentioned it at length. Abu Harun Abdi is well known by his kunya, and he is Umara bin Juwayn, who is discarded as a narrator, and some scholars even accused him of lying.
