Abu Hurairah reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When Allah created Adam, He wiped his back, and every soul that He would create from his offspring until the Day of Resurrection fell from his back. He placed between the eyes of each person a glimmer of light, then presented them to Adam.Adam asked, 'My Lord, who are these?'He answered, 'These are your offspring.'Adam saw among them a man whose glimmer between his eyes amazed him, so he asked, 'My Lord, who is this?'He answered, 'This is a man from the last of the nations among your offspring, called Dawud.'Adam asked, 'My Lord, how long have You made his lifespan?'He answered, 'Sixty years.'Adam said, 'My Lord, increase his lifespan by forty years from mine.'When Adam's lifespan was complete, the Angel of Death came to him. Adam asked, 'Are there not still forty years remaining of my life?'He answered, 'Did you not give them to your son Dawud?'Adam denied it, so his offspring deny. Adam forgot, so his offspring forget. Adam erred, so his offspring err."

عن أبي هريرة قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ: لما خلق الله آدم مسح ظهره فسقط من ظهره كل نسمة هو خالقها من ذريته إلى يوم القيامة وجعل بين عيني كل إنسان منهم وبيصا من نور، ثم عرضهم على آدم فقال: أي رب من هؤلاء؟ قال: هؤلاء ذريتك فرأى رجلا منهم فأعجبه وبيص ما بين عينيه فقال: أي رب من هذا؟ فقال: هذا رجل من آخر الأمم من ذريتك يقال له داود فقال: رب كم جعلت عمره؟ قال: ستين سنة قال: أي رب زده من عمري أربعين سنة، فلما قضى عمر آدم جاءه ملك الموت فقال: أو لم يبق من عمري أربعون سنة؟ قال: أو لم تعطها ابنك داود؟ قال: فجحد آدم فجحدت ذريته، ونسي آدم فنسيت ذريته وخطئ آدم فخطئت ذريته.
