The Prophet ﷺ said, "Only three spoke from the cradle. Isa son of Maryam, the companion of Jurayy, and..."Jurayy was a devout man who built himself a hermitage and lived in it. His mother came to him while he was praying and called out, "Jurayy!"He said to himself, "My Lord, my mother or my prayer?" He continued his prayer, and she went away. The next day she came again while he was praying and called, "Jurayy!"He said, "My Lord, my mother or my prayer?" He continued his prayer, and she went away. The day after, she came once more while he was praying and called, "Jurayy!"He said, "My Lord, my mother or my prayer?" He continued his prayer. So she said, "O Allah, do not let him die until he has looked upon the faces of prostitutes."The Children of Israel spoke about Jurayy and his devotion. There was a prostitute whose beauty was held up as a standard, and she said, "If you wish, I will tempt him for you."She presented herself to him, but he paid her no attention. So she went to a shepherd who used to take shelter by his hermitage and offered herself to him. He had relations with her, and she became pregnant. When she gave birth, she said, "The child is from Jurayy."They came to him, brought him down, demolished his hermitage, and began beating him. He asked, "What is the matter with you?"They said, "You committed fornication with this prostitute, and she has borne a child by you."He asked, "Where is the child?"They brought the baby to him, and he said, "Let me pray." So he prayed, and when he finished, he came to the infant and prodded its belly, saying, "Boy, who is your father?"The baby said, "So-and-so the shepherd."At that, they turned to Jurayy, kissing him and seeking blessings by touching him, and said, "We will rebuild your hermitage in gold."He replied, "No, restore it from clay as it was." So they did.And there was once an infant nursing at his mother's breast when a man passed by riding a fine, spirited mount with handsome appearance. His mother said, "O Allah, make my son like this man." The infant let go of the breast, turned toward the rider, looked at him, and said, "O Allah, do not make me like him." Then he returned to the breast and resumed nursing. The narrator said, It is as if I can still see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ depicting how the child nursed by putting his index finger in his mouth and sucking on it.He said, Then they passed by a slave girl whom people were beating and saying, "You committed fornication! You stole!" while she was saying, "Allah is sufficient for me, and He is the best disposer of affairs."His mother said, "O Allah, do not make my son like her."The infant let go of the breast, looked at her, and said, "O Allah, make me like her." At that point, they exchanged words. She said, "A handsome, well-dressed man passed by and I said, 'O Allah, make my son like him,' but you said, 'O Allah, do not make me like him.' Then they passed by this slave woman as they were beating her and saying, 'You committed fornication! You stole!' and I said, 'O Allah, do not make my son like her,' but you said, 'O Allah, make me like her.'"He replied, "That man was a tyrant, so I said, 'O Allah, do not make me like him.' As for this woman, they accuse her saying, 'You committed fornication,' though she has not, and 'You stole,' though she has not, so I said, 'O Allah, make me like her.'"
