The Prophet ﷺ said, "I was given victory through the easterly wind, and Aad was destroyed by the westerly wind."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: نصرت بالصبا، وأهلكت عاد بالدبور.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Seeking Rain (1035), and Muslim in the Book of Seeking Rain (900:17), both through the route of Shuba bin Hajjaj, from Hakam, from Mujahid, from Abdullah bin Abbas, who related it.Saba, with the unpointed letter vowelled with fatha and the ba unstressed and shortened, is the eastern wind. It is also called Qabul because it faces the door of the Kaaba, since it blows from the direction of the sunrise.Dabur, with the first letter vowelled with fatha and the ba unstressed and vowelled with damma, is a wind that blows from the direction of Maghrib, while Saba blows opposite it from the direction of the east. It was the wind by which the people of Aad were destroyed.Fath al-Bari (2/521).
