The sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day Ibrahim died. People said, "The sun has been eclipsed because of the death of Ibrahim."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The sun and the moon are not eclipsed for the death or life of anyone. So when you see this, pray and call upon Allah."
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Eclipse (1043), and Muslim in the Book of the Eclipse (915:29), both through Ziyad bin Alaqa, from Mughira bin Shuba, who related it. This is the wording of Bukhari, and Muslim's wording is similar, with an addition at the end, "and pray until it clears."
