"My son, you will never taste the true reality of faith until you know that what has befallen you could never have missed you, and what has missed you could never have befallen you. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The first thing Allah created was the Pen. He said to it, Write. It asked, My Lord, what shall I write? He said, Write the decrees of all things until the Hour arrives.'My son, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever dies upon other than this is not from me.'"
Abu Dawud (4700) narrated it from Jafar bin Musafir Huthali, he said, Yahya bin Hassan told us, Walid bin Rabah told us, from Ibrahim bin Abu Abla, from Abu Hafsa, who said, Ubada bin Samit said to his son, and then he related the hadith. Its chain is hasan, because of the discussion surrounding Jafar bin Musafir, the teacher of Abu Dawud, though his hadith is hasan, and it has also been corroborated by another narration. Abu Hafsa is Hubaysh bin Shurayh Habashi, also known as Abu Hafs Shami. Abdul-Rahman bin Ibrahim said, "He met Ubada and memorized hadith from him."
