The People of the Book used to read the Torah in Hebrew and explain it in Arabic to the Muslims. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not believe the People of the Book, nor disbelieve them. Rather say, 'We believe in Allah and in what has been revealed to us'" [Baqarah 2:136].
كان أهل الكتاب يقرؤون التوراة بالعبرية ويفسرونها بالعربية لأهل الإسلام، فقال رسول الله ﷺ: لاتصدقوا أهل الكتاب ولا تكذبوهم، {قولوا آمنا بالله وما أنزل إلينا} الآية [سورة البقرة: ١٣٦].
Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir (4485), he said, Muhammad bin Bashshar told us, Uthman bin Umar told us, Ali bin Mubarak informed us, from Yahya bin Abu Kathir, from Abu Salama, from Abu Hurairah, and he mentioned it.
