We would not kill the merchants of the polytheists during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
كنا لا نقتل تجار المشركين على عهد رسول الله ﷺ.

Ibn Abu Shayba narrated it in his Musnad (1956, Matalib Aliyah), and Abu Yaala (1917), both through the route of Abbad bin Awwam, from Hajjaj (that is, Ibn Artah), from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir bin Abdullah, who said, and then mentioned the hadith. This chain contains Hajjaj bin Artah, who was known for concealing his sources, and here he transmitted using the ambiguous "from" formula. However, he has been corroborated, for Ibn Abu Shayba narrated in his Musannaf (33802), and Bayhaqi (9/91), through the route of Abdul-Rahim bin Sulayman, from Ashath, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, who said, "They did not kill the merchants of the polytheists." Ashath bin Sawwar is daif, though his hadith is recorded, so the hadith becomes hasan through this route, Allah willing.
