Abdullah bin Busr reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ visited Saad bin Ubada when he was ill and asked, "Whom do you count as martyrs from my nation?"He repeated the question three times. We said, "Allah and His Messenger know best."Saad bin Ubada said, "If the Messenger of Allah ﷺ permits me, I will tell him who the martyrs from his nation are."The Prophet said, "Then tell me who the martyrs from my nation are."Saad said, "Prop me up." So they propped him up, and he said, "Whoever believes in Allah, strives in the path of Allah, and fights until he is killed is a martyr."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "In that case, the martyrs of my nation would be few. The one killed in the path of Allah is a martyr, the one who dies of a stomach ailment is a martyr, the one who dies of plague is a martyr, the one who drowns is a martyr, and the woman who dies in childbirth is a martyr."
