The Prophet ﷺ passed by me at al-Abwa, or at Waddan, and he was asked about the people of a dwelling among the polytheists who are raided at night, and whose women and children may be struck in the attack.He said, "They are counted among them."And I heard him say, "There is no protected sanctuary except for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ."
مر بي النبي ﷺ بالأبواء، أو بودان وسئل عن أهل الدار يبيتون من المشركين، فيصاب من نسائهم وذراريهم، قال: هم منهم وسمعته يقول: لا حمى إلا الله والرسول له ﷺ.
Bukhari related it in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (3012), and Muslim in the Book of Jihad and Expeditions (1745:26), through the route of Sufyan bin Uyayna, who said, Zuhri narrated to us, from Ubaydullah, from Ibn Abbas, from Saab bin Jathama, and he mentioned it. Amr bin Dinar used to say in his narration, "They are from their fathers."Abu Dawud also related it (2672) through the route of Sufyan, from Zuhri, with the same wording, and he added that Zuhri said, "Then after that the Prophet ﷺ forbade the killing of women and children."
