Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to battle, he would say, "O Allah, You are my support and my helper. By You I maneuver, by You I charge, and by You I fight."
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا غزا قال: اللهم أنت عضدي ونصيري، بك أحول، وبك أصول، وبك أقاتل.
Abu Dawud (2632), Tirmidhi (3584), and Ahmad (2/12909) narrated it, and Ibn Hibban (4761) graded it sahih, through chains going back to Muthanna bin Saeed, from Qatada, from Anas bin Malik, who mentioned it. Its chain is sahih, and Ibn Hajar graded it sahih in Amali Adhkar, as Ibn Allan quoted from him in Futuhat Rabbaniya (60/5). Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan gharib hadith."As for his words, "and by You I move" (with the undotted ha), it means I move, or it was said, I repel and prevent, from the root "haala," used when one thing comes between two others and one prevents the other. See Nihaya (1/462). And his words, "and by You I attack," mean I overpower and subdue, and "the sawla" is the charge and the leap. See Nihaya (61/3).As for what was narrated from Abdullah bin Masud, who said, "When we met on the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to pray, and I never saw anyone plead for his right more fervently than Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, pleading with his Lord , saying, 'O Allah, I ask You by Your promise and Your covenant. O Allah, I ask You for what You promised me. O Allah, if this band is destroyed, You will not be worshipped on earth.' Then he turned to us, and it was as if the side of his face were the moon, and he said, 'These are the places where the people will fall this evening.'" Its chain is disconnected.Nasai narrated it in Kubra (8574, 10367), Tabarani in Kabir (181/10), and Bayhaqi in Dalail (3/50), through chains from Amash, from Abu Ishaq, from Abu Ubayda, from Abdullah bin Masud, who mentioned it. Its chain is disconnected, for Abu Ubayda, who is the son of Abdullah bin Masud, did not authentically hear from his father. See Marasil by Ibn Abu Hatim, p. 256.Ibn Hajar graded the chain of this hadith as hasan in Fath al-Bari (289/7), even though he said in Taqrib, "The more correct view is that he did not hear authentically from his father."
