I wrote to Nafi asking him about issuing a call before battle. He wrote back to me saying that this was only done in the early days of Islam.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ launched a raid against Banu Mustaliq while they were unaware, with their livestock being watered. He killed their fighters, took their women and children captive, and on that day captured Juwayriyah, the daughter of Harith.Abdullah bin Umar, who was in that army, related this hadith to me.
كتبت إلى نافع أسأله عن الدعاء قبل القتال قال: فكتب إلي إنما كان ذلك في أول الإسلام قد أغار رسول الله ﷺ على بني المصطلق، وهم غارون وأنعامهم تسقى على الماء، فقتل مقاتلتهم وسبى سبيهم وأصاب يومئذ جويرية ابنة الحارث وحدثني هذا الحديث عبد الله بن عمر، وكان في ذاك الجيش.
