He said, "When the time of al-Harra came, someone came to him and said, 'Ibn Hanzala is taking pledges from people to fight to the death.'"He replied, "I will not give such a pledge to anyone after the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
قال لما كان زمن الحرة أتاه آت فقال له: إن ابن حنظلة يبايع الناس على الموت، فقال: لا أبايع على هذا أحدا بعد رسول الله ﷺ.
Bukhari narrated it in Jihad and Expeditions (2959), and Muslim in Leadership (1861: 81), both of them through Wahib, who said, Amr bin Yahya told us, from Abbad bin Tamim, from Abdullah bin Zayd, and he mentioned it.
