The Prophet ﷺ said to Abu Talha, "Find a boy from among your servants who can serve me until I set out for Khaybar."So Abu Talha took me out riding behind him. I was a boy approaching puberty, and I would serve the Messenger of Allah ﷺ whenever he stopped. I often heard him say, "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, from helplessness and laziness, from stinginess and cowardice, from the burden of debt, and from being overpowered by men."Then we arrived at Khaybar. When Allah granted him victory over the fortress, the beauty of Safiya bint Huyayy bin Akhtab was mentioned to him. Her husband had been killed, and she was a new bride. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ chose her for himself. He set out with her until we reached Sadd as-Sahba, where she became permissible for him and he consummated the marriage with her. Then he had hays prepared on a small leather mat, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Invite those around you."That was the wedding feast of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for Safiya. Then we set out for Medina. I saw the Messenger of Allah making a place for her behind him with a cloak, then he would sit beside his camel and place his knee down so that Safiya could put her foot on his knee to mount. We traveled on until, when we came in sight of Medina, he looked toward Uhud and said, "This is a mountain that loves us and we love it." Then he looked toward Medina and said, "O Allah, I declare sacred what lies between its two lava plains, just as Ibrahim declared Mecca sacred. O Allah, bless them in their mudd and their saa."
Bukhari narrated it in Jihad and Sair (2893), and Muslim in Hajj (1365:462), both through Amr bin Abu Amr, the freedman of Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab, that he heard Anas bin Malik say what has been mentioned. The wording given here is Bukhari's.
