Narrated by Tirmidhi (1625), Ahmad (19036, 19038), and Ibn Abu Asim in Jihad (71). Ibn Hibban (4647) and Hakim (2/87) graded it sahih, all of them through routes from Zaida (who is Ibn Qudama).It was also narrated by Ahmad (19035) and Ibn Hibban (6171) through the route of Shayban bin Abdul-Rahman Nahwi.And Nasai narrated it in Mujtaba (3186) and in Kubra (4395), and Ibn Abu Asim in Jihad (72), through the route of Sufyan (who is Thawri).All three of them narrated from Rukayn bin Rabi, from his father, from his uncle Yusayr bin Umaylah, from Khuraim bin Fatik, and so he related it. Some of them narrated it at length.There has been considerable disagreement over the isnad on the authority of Rukayn bin Rabi, though the narration of Shayban and those who agree with him is more correct, as Bukhari stated in Tarikh al-Kabir (8/423).Its isnad is hasan on account of Yusayr bin Umaylah, for Ajli deemed him reliable, and Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the reliable narrators (5/557–558). Daraqutni, in Ilzamat (p. 125), held that the two sheikhs (Bukhari and Muslim) were obligated to include the hadith of Khuraim bin Fatik through the narration of Yusayr bin Umaylah.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan hadith, we only know it through the hadith of Rukayn bin Rabi."Hakim said, "This is a hadith sahih in isnad, though the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not include it. Muslim relied on Rukayn bin Rabi as evidence, and he is a Kufan whose hadith is rare, and Yusayr bin Umaylah is his uncle."
