I heard the Prophet ﷺ say, "The affairs of the people will continue to proceed as long as twelve men rule them." Then the Prophet ﷺ spoke a word that I could not hear clearly, so I asked my father, "What did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say?"He replied, "All of them will be from Quraysh."
سمعت النبي ﷺ يقول: لا يزال أمر الناس ماضيا ما وليهم اثنا عشر جلاثم تكلم النبي ﷺ بكلمة خفيت علي فسألت أبي ماذا قال رسول الله ﷺ؟ فقال: كلهم من قريش.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Judgments (722, 7223), and Muslim in the Book of Leadership (1821: 6), both from the hadith of Abdul-Malik bin Umayr, from Jabir bin Samura, who said, then he related it. The wording given is that of Muslim.Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Leadership (1821: 9) via Shaybi, from Jabir bin Samura, with the wording, "This religion will remain mighty and unassailable until there have been twelve caliphs."Abu Dawud narrated it (4281) via Aswad bin Saeed Hamdani, from Jabir bin Samura, with an addition, "When he returned to his house, Quraysh came to him and asked, 'Then what will happen?' He said, 'Then turmoil will occur.'" However, no one besides Ibn Hibban deemed Aswad bin Saeed trustworthy, and Ibn Qattan said, "His status is unknown." Hafiz's statement about him, "trustworthy," does not accord with his own principles. And turmoil here means killing.
