We pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ, and he recited to us, "that they will not associate anything with Allah" [Mumtahanah 60:12], and he forbade us from wailing over the dead. A woman among us withdrew her hand and said, "So-and-so helped me in mourning before, and I want to repay her." He said nothing in response. She left, then returned. No woman fulfilled the pledge except Umm Sulaym, Umm Ala, and the daughter of Abu Sabra who was the wife of Muaz, or rather, the daughter of Abu Sabra and the wife of Muaz.
بايعنا النبي ﷺ فقرأ علينا: {أن لا يشركن بالله شيئا} ونهانا عن النياحة فقبضت امرأة منا يدها فقالت: فلانة أسعدتني، وأنا أريد أن أجزيها فلم يقل شيئا، فذهبت، ثم رجعت فما وفت امرأة إلا أم سليم، وأم العلاء وابنة أبي سبرة امرأة معاذ،- أو- ابنة أبي سبرة، وامرأة معاذ.
