The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "I intend to send you out in command of an army. Allah will keep you safe, grant you spoils, and I wish for you a fine portion of wealth."I said, "Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam for the sake of wealth. Rather, I embraced Islam out of desire for Islam itself and to be with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "How excellent is good wealth in the hands of a righteous man."
Ahmad (17763), Tabarani in Al-Awsat (3213), and Hakim (2/236) all narrated it through the route of Musa bin Ali bin Rabah, from his father, who said, "I heard Amr bin As," and he related it. Its chain is sahih. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the criterion of Muslim."
