The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are seven whom Allah will shade in His shade on the Day when there is no shade but His: a just ruler, a young person who grew up in the worship of Allah, a man whose heart is attached to the mosques, two men who loved one another for the sake of Allah, meeting upon that and parting upon that, a man who was approached by a woman of status and beauty and said, 'I fear Allah,' a man who gave charity so secretly that his left hand did not know what his right hand had spent, and a man who remembered Allah in solitude and his eyes overflowed with tears."
Malik narrated it in the Poetry chapter (14) from Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman Ansari, from Hafs bin Asim, from Abu Saeed or from Abu Hurairah, and he related it. Muslim narrated it by this same route in the Zakat chapter (1031). Bukhari narrated it in the Adhan chapter (660), and Muslim in the Zakat chapter, both from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, from Ubaydullah, who said, Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman told me, from Hafs bin Asim, from Abu Hurairah, without any doubt about the narrator. On this subject there is also a report from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ, who said, "There is no commander of ten men but that he will be brought on the Day of Resurrection shackled, freed only by justice, or destroyed by oppression." Ahmad narrated it (9573), and Bazzar (8492), and Abu Yaala (6614), all from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed (who is al-Qattan), from Muhammad bin Ajlan, who said, I heard my father and Saeed (who is al-Maqburi) both narrating from Abu Hurairah, and he related it.Bazzar said, "We do not know of anyone who combined Ibn Ajlan from Saeed, and Ibn Ajlan from his father, from Abu Hurairah, except Yahya bin Saeed." End of quote. Its chain of transmission is strong, and some scholars of knowledge have graded it hasan, but there is something strange in its wording. It has been established in the Sahih, "Seven whom Allah will shade with His shade on the day when there is no shade but His," and among them is mentioned the just ruler. Whoever attempts to reconcile the two has taken on an unnecessary burden. As for what is reported from Abu Umama, from the Prophet ﷺ, that he said, "There is no man who is placed in charge of ten or more but that he will come to Allah on the Day of Resurrection shackled, his hand bound to his neck, freed by his righteousness or destroyed by his sin, its beginning is blame, its middle is regret, and its end is disgrace on the Day of Resurrection," this is not sahih. Ahmad narrated it (22300) from Abu Yaman, who said, Ismail bin Ayyash told us, from Yazid bin Abu Malik, from Luqman bin Amir, from Abu Umama, and he related it. There is considerable disagreement over its chain of transmission regarding Ismail bin Ayyash, and this is among the things that weaken the hadith, along with the strangeness in its wording as mentioned before.
