We captured some donkeys and cooked them, when the herald of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called out, "Overturn the pots."In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ forbade the meat of donkeys.
أصبنا حمرا، فطبخناها، فنادى منادي رسول الله ﷺ: أكفئوا القدور. وفي رواية: نهى النبي ﷺ عن لحوم الحمر.
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Military Expeditions (4221, 4222), and Muslim in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals (1938: 28), both of them through the route of Shubah, from Adi bin Thabit, from Bara and Abdullah bin Abu Awfa. They both said, and then he mentioned it. The wording given is that of Muslim. The other version is that of Bukhari in the Book of Slaughtered Animals and Hunting (5525, 5526), through the route of Yahya (that is, Qattan), from Shubah, with the same wording.
