Umm Malik used to send the Prophet ﷺ gifts of clarified butter in a leather flask of hers. Her sons would come to her asking for something to eat with their bread, but there was nothing in the house. So she would turn to the flask in which she sent the gifts to the Prophet ﷺ, and she would find clarified butter in it. It continued to provide the seasoning for her household until she squeezed it.She came to the Prophet ﷺ, and he asked, "Did you squeeze it?"She replied, "Yes."He said, "Had you left it alone, it would have kept providing."
أن أم مالك كانت تهدي للنبي ﷺ في عكة لها سمنا، فيأتيها بنوها، فيسألون الأدم، وليس عندهم شيء، فتعمد إلى الذي كانت تهدي فيه للنبي ﷺ، فتجد فيه سمنا، فما زال يقيم لها أدم بيتها حتى عصرته، فأتت النبي ﷺ، فقال: عصرتيها؟ قالت: نعم، قال: لو تركتيها ما زال قائما.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Virtues (2280) from Salama bin Shabib, who said, Hasan bin Ayan narrated to us, who said, Maqil narrated to us, from Abu Zubayr, from Jabir, and he related it.As for what was narrated from Ibn Umar, who said, Umar visited him while he was at his table, and he made room for him at the head of the gathering. Umar said, "In the name of Allah." Then he reached out his hand and took a bite, then took another. Then he said, "I find the taste of fat in this. Is this not the fat of meat?"Abdullah said, "O Commander of the Faithful, I went out to the market seeking fat meat to buy, but I found it expensive. So I bought a scrawny piece for a dirham, and had a dirham's worth of fat poured over it. I wanted my household to be able to pass around bone after bone."Umar said, "These two were never brought together in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except that he ate one of them and gave the other in charity."Abdullah said, "Take it, O Commander of the Faithful, for whenever the two come together for me, I will do the same."Umar said, "I would not do that."This is daif. Ibn Majah narrated it (3361) from Abu Kurayb, who said, Yahya bin Abdul-Rahman Arhabi narrated to us, who said, Yunus bin Abu Yafur narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn Umar, and he related it.In its chain is Yunus bin Abu Yafur, concerning whom there is disagreement, though the prevailing view is that he is weak. Indeed Ibn Hibban said in Al-Majruhin (3/139), "His hadith are munkar. He narrates from his father and from reliable narrators things that do not resemble the hadith of trustworthy narrators. In my view, it is not permissible to rely on him for reports he transmits alone." Ibn Main and Nasai also declared him daif, while others regarded him as acceptable.
