Ahmad (20596), Tabarani in Kabir (20/353), Ibn Abu Asim in Sunnah (410), and Ajurri in Sharia (943) all narrated it through the route of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, who said, Mansur bin Saad narrated to us, from Budayl, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, from Maysara Fajr, and he related the hadith.In some of the narrations it reads, "I was," as in Hilya (9/53). It is likewise found in Hakim's Mustadrak (2/608), who narrated it through the route of Ibrahim bin Tahman, from Budayl with his chain, and said, the isnad is sahih. The better known wording is, "I was written," this being how Mansur bin Saad and Ibrahim bin Tahman narrated it, from Budayl, who is Ibn Maysara Aqeeli, as a raised hadith.Hammad bin Salama narrated it, from Khalid Haddan, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, from a man, who said, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, when were you made a prophet?" He said, "While Adam was between the spirit and the body." Ibn Abu Asim narrated it in Sunnah (411), from Hudba bin Khalid, who said, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, and he related the same.The unnamed man is Maysara Fajr. This is a strong corroboration for Budayl's raised narration. Once this is understood, it does no harm that Hammad bin Zayd differed in his narration from Budayl, from Abdullah bin Shaqiq, narrating it as a discontinued report. Even though Hafiz Daraqutni preferred the discontinued version, an addition made by a trustworthy narrator is accepted by the majority of hadith scholars, as is well known in the science of hadith terminology. The hadith that follows corroborates the hadith of Maysara Fajr.
