I sat in a gathering in which Abdul-Rahman bin Samura was present, though I did not know him at the time. He said, "Muaz bin Jabal narrated to us that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There is no soul on earth that dies without associating anything with Allah, bearing witness that I am the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with that returning to a heart of certainty, except that it will be forgiven.'"I said, "Did you yourself hear this from Muaz bin Jabal?"The people rebuked me harshly, but he said, "Leave him alone, for he has not spoken badly. Yes, I heard it from Muaz, and he claimed he heard it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."
جلست مجلسا فيه عبد الرحمن بن سمرة ولا أعرفه قال: حدثنا معاذ بن جبل، قال: قال رسول الله ﷺ: ما على الأرض نفس تموت لا تشرك بالله شيئا تشهد أني رسول الله ﷺ يرجع ذاكم إلى قلب موقن إلا غفر لها قال: قلت: أنت سمعت هذا من معاذ بن جبل؟ قال: فعنفني القوم فقال: دعوه فإنه لم يسئ القول، نعم أنا سمعته من معاذ، زعم أنه سمعه من رسول الله ﷺ.
Ahmad narrated it (22000), as did Bazzar in his Musnad (2624), Nasai in Amal al-Yawm wal-Layla (1138), and Ibn Hibban (203), all of them through the hadith of Muhammad bin Abu Adi, from Hajjaj - meaning Ibn Abu Uthman - who said, Humayd bin Hilal narrated to me, who said, Hisan bin Kahil narrated to us, and then he related it.Its chain of transmission is hasan because of Hisan bin Kahil - also said to be bin Kahin - from whom more than one narrator transmitted. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Al-Thiqat, and he is among the Tabiin. His hadith has established foundations and contains nothing objectionable, so the hadith of someone like him is graded hasan, and this hadith is one of them.
