The Prophet ﷺ passed by a young man who was skinning a sheep. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Step aside so I may show you." He then placed his hand between the skin and the flesh and pushed it in until it disappeared up to his armpit. He then went on and led the people in prayer without performing ablution.Wazad added in another narration, "Young man, this is how you should skin it."
Abu Dawud (185), Ibn Majah (3179), and Ibn Hibban, who graded it sahih (1162), all narrated it through Marwan bin Muawiya, who said, "Hilal bin Maymun Juhani told us, Ata bin Yazid Laythi told us." He said, "I only know it as coming from Abu Saeed Khudri," and he mentioned it. The other narration is with Ibn Majah. Its chain is hasan because of Hilal bin Maymun, for his hadith is hasan.
