The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Isa son of Maryam will descend, kill the swine, abolish the cross, and the prayer will be gathered for him. Wealth will be given in such abundance that no one will accept it. He will abolish the jizyah, and will descend at al-Rawha, from where he will perform Hajj, or Umrah, or both together."
Imam Ahmad narrated it (7903) from Yazid, who said, Sufyan informed us, from Zuhri, from Hanzala, from Abu Hurairah, and he related the hadith in the same way. He said, and Abu Hurairah recited, "There is none among the People of the Book but will believe in him before his death, and on the Day of Resurrection he will be a witness against them" [Nisa 4:159]. Hanzala claimed that Abu Hurairah said, "He will believe in him before his death, meaning Isa." So I do not know whether all of this is a hadith from the Prophet ﷺ or something Abu Hurairah said on his own. End of quote.I say, the pronoun in the phrase "before his death" refers to Isa , and this is what the leading scholars among the companions, such as Ibn Abbas and others, held, and it is also the view Abu Hurairah adopted. As for whether it is a marfu report or a mawquf one attributed only to him, the apparent conclusion from the narrations is that it is mawquf, and it has not been established as marfu going back to the Prophet ﷺ.It has been narrated from Kathir bin Abdullah bin Awf, from his father, from his grandfather, that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Isa bin Maryam will pass by performing hajj, or umrah, or Allah will combine both for him." This was narrated by Abdul-Malik bin Habib Al-Andalusi in "Ashrat as-Saah" (38), from Ibn Abu Uways, from Kathir, with his chain of transmission in the same way. Tabarani also narrated it through this same route in Al-Kabir (16/17-17) in a longer version, and he also narrated it through another route from Kathir with the same content. Its chain of transmission is extremely daif, for Kathir bin Abdullah bin Amr bin Awf Al-Muzani Al-Madani is a narrator whom the scholars of knowledge unanimously agree to be daif, to the point that Ibn Hibban said, "He narrated from his father, from his grandfather, a fabricated collection of hadiths that it is not permissible to mention in books, nor to narrate from him except by way of expressing astonishment." Haythami likewise declared it daif in "Al-Majma" (6/86).
