Abu Thalaba reported,

I said, "Prophet of Allah, we live in a land of People of the Book. May we eat from their vessels? And it is a hunting land. I hunt with my bow, with my untrained dog, and with my trained dog. What is permissible for me?"He said, "As for what you mentioned about the People of the Book, if you can find other vessels, do not eat from theirs. But if you cannot find others, wash them and eat from them. Whatever you hunt with your bow and mention the name of Allah over, eat it. Whatever you hunt with your trained dog and mention the name of Allah over, eat it. And whatever you hunt with your untrained dog and reach in time to slaughter properly, eat it."

عن أبي ثعلبة الخشني قال

قلت: يا نبي الله، إنا بأرض قوم أهل الكتاب أفنأكل في آنيتهم؟ وبأرض صيد، أصيد بقوسي، وبكلبي الذي ليس بمعلم، وبكلبى المعلم، فما يصلح لي. قال: أما ما ذكرت من أهل الكتاب فإن وجدتم غيرها فلا تأكلوا فيها، وإن لم تجدوا فاغسلوها وكلوا فيها، وما صدت بقوسك فذكرت اسم الله فكل، وما صدت بكلبك المعلم فذكرت اسم الله فكل، وما صدت بكلبك غير معلم فأدركت ذكاته فكل.
