The Prophet ﷺ said, "The aqiqah for a boy is two comparable sheep, and for a girl, one sheep."
عن النبي ﷺ قال: العقيقة عن الغلام شاتان مكافئتان، وعن الجارية شاة.
Imam Ahmad (27582) and Tabarani (24/461) narrated it via Ismail bin Ayyash, from Thabit bin Ajlan, from Mujahid, from Asma, and mentioned it as I have related.Ibn Abu Asim also narrated it in Al-Ahad wal-Mathani (3353) via Ismail bin Ayyash with the same chain, with the wording, "The aqiqah is due for the boy..."Its chain is hasan, because of Thabit bin Ajlan Al-Himsi, concerning whom there is disagreement, though his hadith is hasan when he does not contradict others. It is also because of Ismail bin Ayyash, who is truthful when he narrates from the people of his own land, and this narration is one of those cases.
