The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to offer as sacrifice a horned, virile ram that looked through black, ate through black, and walked through black.
كان رسول الله ﷺ يضحي بكبش أقرن فحيل، ينظر في سواد، ويأكل في سواد، ويمشي في سواد.
Narrated by Abu Dawud (2796), Tirmidhi (1496), Nasai (4390), and Ibn Majah (3128) through various chains from Hafs bin Ghiyath, from Jafar bin Muhammad, from his father, from Abu Saeed Khudri, who mentioned it. Its isnad is sahih. Jafar bin Muhammad is the son of Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn, the Qurashi Hashimi known as Sadiq, and his father is Muhammad bin Ali bin Husayn bin Abu Talib, known as Baqir, and both of them are trustworthy narrators of great standing.Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih gharib hadith, we do not know it except through the report of Hafs bin Ghiyath."I say, Ibn Hibban also graded it sahih (5902), as did Hakim (4/228), who said, "Sahih according to the criterion of the two Shaykhs." But the correct view is that Baqir is among the narrators of Muslim alone, and Bukhari only narrated from him in Adab al-Mufrad. However, Hakim does not distinguish between the narrators Bukhari used in his Sahih and those he used in Adab al-Mufrad and his other books. So be alert to that.
