Imran bin Husayn reported,

Thakeef were allies of Banu Aqeel. Thakeef captured two men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ captured a man from Banu Aqeel. Along with him they took the camel called al-Adba.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came upon him while he was tied up.The man called out, "Muhammad!"The Messenger came to him and asked, "What is the matter with you?"The man said, "Why have you seized me, and why have you seized the camel that outpaces the pilgrims?"Considering it a serious matter, the Prophet replied, "I have seized you for the offense of your allies, Thakeef."Then he turned away from him. The man called after him, "Muhammad! Muhammad!"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was merciful and tender-hearted, so he returned to him and asked, "What is the matter with you?"The man said, "I am a Muslim."The Prophet replied, "Had you said this while you were in control of your own affairs, you would have prospered with complete success."Then he turned away again. The man called out, "Muhammad! Muhammad!"He came back to him and asked, "What is the matter with you?"The man said, "I am hungry, so feed me, and thirsty, so give me drink."He said, "This is your need." Then he was ransomed in exchange for the two men.A woman from the Ansar had also been captured, and al-Adba had been seized along with her. The woman was kept tied up, and the people would let their livestock rest in front of their homes in the evenings. One night she slipped free from her bonds and came to the camels. Whenever she approached one of them, it would grunt, so she would leave it, until she reached al-Adba, who did not grunt. She was a well-trained, docile camel. So the woman mounted her hindquarters, urged her on, and they set off. The people became aware of her escape and pursued her, but she eluded them. She had vowed to Allah that if Allah delivered her on this camel, she would slaughter it. When she reached Medina, the people saw the camel and said, "This is al-Adba, the camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."She said, "I have vowed that if Allah delivered me on her, I would slaughter her."They came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and mentioned this to him. He said, "Glory be to Allah! What a poor reward she has given the camel. She vowed to Allah that if Allah delivered her on it, she would slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow involving disobedience, nor in something the servant does not possess."In another narration, "There is no vow in disobedience to Allah."
