Malik bin Nadla reported,

I came to the Prophet ﷺ. He looked me up and down, then asked, "Are you an owner of camels or an owner of sheep?"I replied, "Allah has given me both, in abundance and of fine quality."He said, "Their young are born to you with sound eyes and ears, then you slit the ear of one and say, 'It is sirm,'" then Sufyan spoke a word I did not understand, "and you say, 'It is bahirah dedicated to Allah'? But Allah's forearm is stronger, and His blade is sharper. Had He wished to bring them to you with their ears already cut, He would have done so."I asked, "What do you call to?"He answered, "To Allah and to upholding the ties of kinship."I said, "A man from my paternal cousins comes to me, and I swear that I will not give him anything, then I give him?"He replied, "Make expiation for your oath, and do what is better. Tell me, if you had two slaves, one who obeys you and never betrays you nor lies to you, and another who betrays you and lies to you, which would you prefer?"I said, "No, rather the one who does not betray me, does not lie to me, and tells me the truth is dearer to me."He said, "Such are you before your Lord ."

عن مالك بن نضلة الجشمي قال

أتيت النبي ﷺ فصعد في النظر، وصوب، وقال: أرب إبل أنت أو رب غنم؟ قال: من كل قد أتاني الله، فأكثر وأطيب، قال: فتنتجها وافية أعينها وآذانها، فتجدع هذه، فتقول صرما ثم تكلم سفيان بكلمة لم أفهمها وتقول: بحيرة الله؟ فساعد الله أشد، وموساه أحد، ولو شاء أن يأتيك بها صرما أتاك قلت: إلى ما تدعو؟ قال: إلى الله وإلى الرحم قلت: يأتيني الرجل من بني عمي، فأحلف أن لا أعطيه ثم أعطيه؟ قال: فكفر عن يمينك، وأت الذي هو خير، أرأيت لو كان لك عبدان أحدهما يطيعك ولا يخونك ولا يكذبك، والآخر يخونك ويكذبك؟ قال: قلت: لا، بل الذي لا يخونني، ولا يكذبني، ويصدقني الحديث أحب إلي. قال: كذاكم أنتم عند ربكم عز وجل.
