She said to al-Ashtar, "Are you the one who tried to kill my nephew?"He replied, "I did my best to kill him, and he did his best to kill me."She said, "Don't you know what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said? 'No man's blood may lawfully be shed except for one who apostatizes, abandons Islam, commits adultery after marriage, or kills a soul without right.'"
أنها قالت للأشتر: أنت الذي أردت قتل ابن أختي؟ قال: قد حرصت على قتله، وحرص على قتلي. قالت: أو ما علمت ما قال رسول الله ﷺ: لا يحل دم رجل إلا رجل ارتد، أو ترك الإسلام، أو زنى بعد ما أحصن، أو قتل نفسا بغير نفس.
Ahmad (25477) narrated it from Abdul-Rahman (bin Mahdi), from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq, from Amr bin Ghalib, from Ayesha, and he related it in full.Nasai (4017) and Tahawi in his Mushkil (1808) both narrated it through the hadith of Sufyan, except that Nasai did not mention the story of Ashtar.I say, there is disagreement regarding Abu Ishaq Sabi. Sufyan Thawri and a group narrated it from Abu Ishaq Sabi as a connected chain. Ismail bin Abban Ghanawi and Hammad bin Zayd and others narrated it from Abu Ishaq Sabi as a disconnected chain, from Ayesha.Daraqutni said in his Ilal (14/385), "The correct view is that of Thawri and those with him."I say, its chain is hasan due to the disagreement regarding Amr bin Ghalib, though he is one whose hadith is hasan. Nasai and Ibn Hibban both deemed him reliable, and Tirmidhi graded a hadith of his sahih in his Sunan.
