The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If a slave steals, sell him, even if only for half an ounce of silver."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: إذا سرق العبد فبيعوه ولو بنش.
It was narrated by Abu Dawud (4412), Nasai (4980), Ibn Majah (2589), and Bukhari in Adab al-Mufrad (165), all from the hadith of Abu Awana, from Umar bin Abu Salama, from his father, from Abu Hurairah, who related it.Nasai said, "Umar bin Abu Salama is not strong in hadith."I say, but Bukhari said, "Truthful." Abu Hatim said, "In my view he is decent and truthful in the main." Ahmad said, "He is decent, trustworthy, Allah willing." Barqi mentioned him in the chapter of those whose hadith is tolerated among the well-known narrators, saying, "Most scholars of hadith accept him as reliable." Dawri said, "I asked Ibn Main about one of his hadiths, and he said, 'Sahih,' and I asked him about another, and he approved of it." Ibn Adi said, "His hadith is hasan, there is no harm in it."So a narrator like him has his hadith graded hasan, unless he contradicts the trustworthy narrators.As for his statement "nashsh," it means half of anything, even if only half its value.
