Muawiya Qushayri reported,

The Prophet ﷺ arrested some men from my tribe on a charge and detained them. A man from my tribe came to the Prophet ﷺ while he was delivering a sermon and said, "Muhammad, why are you detaining my neighbors?"The Prophet ﷺ remained silent. The man said, "People are saying that you forbid evil while practicing it in private."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "What is he saying?"I began interrupting between them with talk, fearing he would hear it and invoke against my tribe a curse from which they would never prosper afterward. But the Prophet ﷺ kept pressing him until he understood what was said.He said, "Have they really said this, or is it just one of them saying it? By Allah, if I had done such a thing, the burden would be upon me, not upon them. Release his neighbors to him."
