The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The blood-money for the fingers and toes is the same, ten camels for each digit."
قال رسول الله ﷺ: دية الأصابع اليدين والرجلين سواء. عشرة من الإبل لكل أصبع.
Tirmidhi (1391) narrated it, and this is his wording, as did Abu Dawud (4560-4561), Nasai (4849), and Ibn Jarud (780), all of them through Ikrima, from Ibn Abbas, who mentioned it.Some of them left it ambiguous by saying, "These are equal," referring ambiguously to the thumb and little finger, as in the version of Shuba recorded by Bukhari. Tirmidhi said, "This is the practice among the people of knowledge. This is the view of Sufyan, Shafii, Ahmad, and Ishaq."Ibn Abbas used to give this same ruling. Marwan sent word to him, saying, "Are you giving a ruling that the fingers are worth ten each? Yet a ruling from Umar concerning the fingers has reached you." Ibn Abbas replied, "May Allah have mercy on Umar. The word of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ deserves to be followed more than the word of Umar." Bayhaqi recorded this (8/93) with a sahih chain of transmission. This is because Umar bin Khattab had ruled that the thumb is worth fifteen, the finger next to it ten, the middle finger ten, the finger next to the little finger nine, and the little finger six. Shafii narrated it from Sufyan and Abdul-Wahhab Thaqafi, from Yahya bin Saeed, from Saeed bin Musayab, from Umar, who mentioned it. Bayhaqi also recorded it (8/93) through the route of Shafii.
