Jundab bin Abdullah narrated to us in this mosque, and we have not forgotten what he told us, nor do we fear that Jundab lied about the Prophet ﷺ. He said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among those who came before you was a man who had a wound. He grew impatient, took a knife, and slashed his hand with it. The bleeding did not stop until he died. Allah the Exalted said, 'My servant has hastened to take his own life before Me. I have forbidden Paradise to him.'"In another narration, a man developed a kharaj, meaning an ulcer.
Bukhari narrated it in the chapters on the prophets (3463), and Muslim in the book of faith (113: 181), both of them through the route of Jareer, who said, I heard Hasan say, and then he related it.His saying, "the blood did not stop flowing," means it did not cease. His saying, "he hastened to take his own life before his appointed time" has been raised as a difficulty, because it implies that whoever kills himself has died before his appointed term, given what the wording of the hadith suggests, namely that if he had not killed himself he would have remained beyond that time and lived on, but he hurried and brought it forward.Qadi Abu Bakr bin Arabi said, "Allah's decree is either unconditional or conditioned by a description. The unconditional decree comes to pass in the manner decreed, with nothing to divert it, while the conditioned one may go either way. An example of this would be that it is decreed for a person to live twenty years if he kills himself, or thirty years if he does not. This is with respect to what the created being comes to know, such as death, for instance. But with respect to Allah's knowledge, nothing occurs except what He has known would occur."See Fath al-Bari (6/500).
