A man freed six of his slaves upon his death, and he owned no property besides them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for the slaves and divided them into three groups, then drew lots between them. He freed two and kept four in slavery, and he spoke harshly about what the man had done.
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Oaths and Vows (56:1668) via Ismail bin Ulaya, from Ayub, from Abu Qilaba, from Abu Muhallab, from Imran bin Husayn, who mentioned it.
