Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman bin Awf reported,

Abdullah bin Abbas and Abu Hurairah were asked about a pregnant woman whose husband had died.Ibn Abbas said, "She must wait the longer of the two terms."Abu Hurairah said, "Once she gives birth, she is free to remarry."So Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman went to Umm Salama, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, and asked her about this.Umm Salama said, "Sabia al-Aslamiyya gave birth half a month after her husband's death, and two men proposed to her, one young and the other middle-aged. She inclined toward the younger one, so the older man said, 'You are not yet free to remarry.' Her family was away at the time, and he hoped that when they returned they would favor him with her hand. She then went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, 'You are free to remarry, so marry whomever you wish.'"
